Introduction:

This is my second master’s in education, so I did have expectations of a traditional class, discussion board post due by a certain date and we respond to two. However, I was also curious about how I would be able to write traditional essays on education technology. It was good to see the syllabus and learn that the assignments were not essay based, and that I was able to get in tuned with me creative side. I also appreciated that major assignments were not due every week, but bi-weekly. As a working mom, married, and having to take care of everyday life the bi-weekly assignments allowed me to pace myself better.

Evaluation of Success:

Some of the areas that I feel worked well were the major assignments being due bi-weekly. In addition, having class on Mondays to discuss the upcoming work was helpful because it provided an opportunity to ask questions and get clarification. In addition, being able to email or call you was much appreciated because you responded quickly.

Areas of Growth or Improvement:

Some areas of improvement I would suggest are…

  1. I would like to hear and see more examples of utilizing technology in the corporate setting; often when examples are given you would address school districts. If I did not have previous experience as an educator, I probably would have dropped the opportunity for this degree all together because it would have been difficult to find a connection.

  2. While I do like that you all give us a choice, I would have preferred groups to be created by you all, so we would not have to figure out who was in a group and who was not. Possibly doing a random group selection on google and sending it in an email then having us reach out to each other would be better.

Brief summary and reflection of each assignment:

The manifesto assignment was a good first assignment because it allowed me to reflect on my passions, and what can be improved with education and what is going well with it. I was able to think about why, and how this degree could help fulfill my assignment. It also gave me a better understanding of what I wanted to explore for my innovation proposal in my other class.

  • Personality & Leadership Philosophy

I enjoyed learning more about myself and leadership style. Although I was not surprised by my results, it did not allow me to become more open and self-reflected. When we first began the class, I was kind of taking over the direction of the assignments, but after learning more I fell back a little to give other people the opportunity to lead.

This assignment was a little confusing in the beginning because I was not sure of the directions regarding needing to make a slide or to only use an AI tool, but you were helpful and quick with your response when I emailed it. I enjoyed learning more helpful resources and recommended the Gamma.app to my husband who was excited to know he could use it to create presentations for work.

Reflection of your collaborative discussion group:

In the beginning I was not excited about having to do collaborative discussion groups because I did not necessarily trust other people to complete their work in a timely matter. I am the type of person who likes to complete tasks prior to the deadline, so I took on the role of checking in on people to see how they were doing with their posting etc. However, I must say in the end it was fun to create slides and padlets around our discussion topic and not necessarily having to answer every single question.

Summary or Conclusion of course and your learning:

Overall, the course pulled me out of my comfort zone and pushed me to be more collaborative. Did I enjoy it? Not necessarily, but it has made me grow and growing is often uncomfortable. I am excited to learn what other sources I can utilize, how to incorporate instructional design, and how to build an Eportfolio in my other courses.
