Students are exposed to various curriculum and content daily, and every student comes from various backgrounds, culturally and socioeconomically. I work at an Ed Tech company that embodies the importance of displaying representation through imagery in their content; however, their tracking system for demographics is not the most accurate; therefore, students could be missing out on seeing themselves. Therefore, my innovation plan focuses on integrating artificial intelligence into our tracking system. The goal is for AI to provide a more accurate depiction of demographics from the images with people in them. This will allow students to see themselves in the content which can improve student engagement.
“Representation is the use of language and images to create meanings about people, places, and things. It can be either reflective or intentional. Reflective representation emulates preexisting meanings; it reflects meanings already understood.” (Anderson, 2022)
Topic: Benefits of integrating accurate representation for students in their curriculum in all subjects.

Where to submit?
Edutopia: Edutopia is a free resource for educators to showcase what is working in education. Their objective is providing access to factual, quality, and creative information (Edutopia, 2025).
ASCD: ASCD focuses on the transformation of learning for students through their imagination and technology (ASCD, 2025).
What is the connection to your innovation?
Accurate representation in students curriculum is connected to my innovation plan because I want to ensure the system the company I work for use accounts for all demographics correctly.
How can this information help others?
This information can help both students and teachers. Students will be able to see themselves in learning and teachers will understand how to create meaningful lessons. Also, teachers will be able to enhance engagement, try to avoid stereotypes, and differentiate instruction.
Lessons Learned or Hope to Learn:
Learned: Understanding the impact of representation in curriculum and how it can positively affect students.
Hope: The hope is to increase accurate data on demographics in students' curriculum.
Digital Resources:
Dreambox Learning: Dreambox Learning provides a fun, personalized, experience for students to learn math and reading through differentiation and personalized learning.
IXL Learning: IXL learning provides personalized learning for PK-12th grade for multiple subjects including Spanish.
All in all, students spend a lot of time at school and they learn a lot as well; therefore, ensuring they are confident and comfortable in their learning, representation in the curriculum is vital. It starts with understanding the needs of the students and the teachers which then transfers to educational companies that create content for the students.
